Coach applications are open now!

What is a Girls on the Run coach?

Warm-up your spirit fingers, lace up your sneakers and inspire a group of girls to be strong, healthy, and confident. Each season Girls on the Run has a vibrant group of coaches that volunteer their time to guide and mentor girls to express joy, optimism, and gratitude through their thoughts, words, and actions. Teams of volunteer coaches teach the Girls on the Run curriculum to girls on their team over the course of 10 weeks. Are you ready to make a difference and encourage girls to realize their full potential?

Coach Inspiration of Girls of today & tomorrow!

A team of volunteer coaches works directly with the 3rd-5th grade participants at each site. Our seasons last 10 weeks, ending with a 5K celebration. Coaches don’t just train the girls for the end-of-season 5K – they also facilitate the GOTR curriculum. If you are interested in coaching, please fill out the Coach application.

Head Coach:

The head coach will take the lead on preparing for scheduled lessons; she is also responsible for leading the girls through the lessons, attending a coaches training, participating in the end-of-season 5K, planning the end-of-season party, believing in the GOTR mission, and serving as a role model. Head coaches must attend training.

Assistant Coach:

Assistant coaches at each site assist the head coach with her responsibilities. Assistant coaches are expected to attend all sessions, unless other arrangements have been made, and to participate in the end-of-season 5K. Assistant coaches must attend training.

Event/Race Day Team:

Race day volunteers are essential to the success of our 5Ks! Volunteers may assist with a variety of activities, from registration to handing out water and medals.

Committee Member:

Is there a certain area you are interested in, or an area you would like to share your experience? We are always looking for volunteers for our committees – marketing, fundraising, race planning, and event planning.

Running Buddies:

Running buddies sign up to run alongside a GOTR participant. As a running buddy, you’ll support your GOTR girl along the course and across the finish line. This is a great opportunity if you aren’t able to commit to being a coach! Please note that availability of this role is based on need.

All volunteers are required to complete a background check. After you submit a volunteer application, you will receive instructions on how to complete the background check.

If you are interested in volunteering opportunities other than coaching, please fill out our General Volunteer application.
