Color Me Happy!

There are a lot of things on my list of what makes me happy. Close to the top is spending time with my best girl friend, Sammy. Exercising is also high on my list because of its multiple benefits (it makes me feel healthy and confident). What’s really cool is I found a way to do both of those things at the same time: exercising with my best friend!

Sammy and I decided to commit to participating together in at least one 5k a year. This allows us to enhance our fitness and spend more time with one another. To make it fun and interesting, we pick a unique and exciting 5k. This year, we chose a 5k called Run or Dye! Sound scary? Well, it was nothing but awesome! It’s a play on words because during the 3.2 mile run you literally get “dyed” with color!

Sammy and I had a blast participating in this color run. Not only were we getting exercise, but we were getting doused with bright, beautiful colors throughout the run! We also enhanced our bond and created some great memories. After the run they had a color party where all the participants gathered and celebrated with more color and music. We took some awesome, colorful pictures to capture our experience. It made me so happy!

By the way, working out with a friend can provide the following benefits:

  1. Commitment / Motivation: You are more likely to stick to your fitness goals if you have a friend by your side to encourage each other along the way.
  2. Fun / Great memories: Doing any activity with a buddy can make it more fun. You create a stronger bond and can laugh together!
  3. Support / Safety: There is always safety in numbers when you are doing a fitness activity together. You can also help each other if one of you should get injured.

What do you and your best friend do for fun? Consider participating together in Girls on the Run, a 5k or any fitness activity together. You will be happy you did!
