Girls on the Run is a life-changing, character development program for girls in 3rd through 5th grade. We inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running. We use the power of running to provide girls with the tools to:
- Celebrate their bodies
- Honor their voices
- Recognize their gifts, and
- Activate their personal power
Girls on the Run is a council of Girls on the Run International and an affiliate of the Gainesville Community Foundation. Founded in 1996 by Molly Barker, today there are nearly 200 councils throughout the United States and Canada. Girls on the Run® is a life-changing, experiential learning program for girls age eight to thirteen years old. The programs combine training for a 3.1 mile running event with self-esteem enhancing, uplifting workouts. The goals of the programs are to encourage positive emotional, social, mental, spiritual and physical development in those critical pre-teen years and beyond.
